Two strangers in the wrong place at the worst possible time…
….a lone assassin prepared to do the dirtiest of jobs…
…and a guard sentry determined to stop him.
A dark enemy is about to rise in Illmoor, something even more chaotic and twisted than the citizens themselves. Step forward Enoch Dwellings, master sleuth, who boasts a reputation built entirely on an intricate web of carefully calculated lies. Together with his hapless but increasingly inept assistant, Doctor Wheredad (no medical training whatsoever), he will do anything it takes to solve a crime that might actually end up costing him more than his own life.

This book was originally published as the Dwellings Debacle by Hodder in the UK in 2006

Praise for this book

“Fun, gripping fantasy adventure”
The way I couldn't put this book down until I finished it...

David Lee Stone has created a wildly fun world called Illmoor with equally interesting and peculiar characters to match! When the Viscount is kidnapped Detective Enoch Dwellings and his bumbling assistant Doctor Wheredad must solve the case before all hope is lost!

The banter between all of the characters is amazing, all are so witty and funny. I instantly loved all of the characters with their weird tropes - even the ones we only met for a chapter but I hope to meet again.

An amazing YA fantasy - first in a trilogy - that you should definitely pick up and read
